Inno3D GeForce GTX 470 Hawk Card Version Preview
Written by Mavke
Wednesday, 19 May 2010

Inno3D introduces its first graphics card based on NVIDIA's Fermi architecture, the GeForce GTX 470 Hawk edition. The GeForce GTX 470 has 448 shaders and a 320-bit memory interface. It was redesigned from the ground up to deliver the best performance with DirectX 11, while adding dedicated engines in the GPU to accelerate key features like tessellation. The card promises to offer a great game performance and image quality, enabling film like geometric gaming realism. The geometric realism is central to the GeForce GTX 470 architectural enhancements for graphics. In addition, PhysX simulations are much faster, and developers can now utilize GPU computing features in games most effectively. - CDRInfo

Besides the general features and advantages of these GeForce GTX 470 chipset, Inno3D's Hawk graphics card is offering more due to its special cooling system. The improved Inno3D GeForce GTX 470 Hawk is equipped with two 80mm fans with a 90mm fan between that runs at variable speed. This cooling performance is expected to bring enthusiasts a great overclocking experience. While despite boasting three enormous fans, the Hawk edition manages to keep the noise level extremely low. Controlled by the pulse width modulation signal, the fans run at the necessary speed in order to offer sufficient cooling at the lowest noise level.

The Inno3D GeForce GTX 470 Hawk is the first graphics card we looked at based on the Fermi chip. We are generally very satisfied with the card's performance to price ratio. The Hawk edition was very strong at high resolutions and demanding visual settings but in some cases, previous generation cards were faster in lower resolutions. As a result, if you are planning to get such a high-end graphics card, also make sure your display can handle higher resolutions. The Inno3D GeForce GTX 470 Hawk is huge in size, it consumes much power and as such, it has to be equipped with a more efficient cooling solution than NVIDIA's stock one.

That's why Inno3D has introduced its own cooling system for its Fermi series of graphics cards, which can deliver better cooling efficiency. When looking at the performance, these Inno3D GeForce GTX 470 card is very fast and will make you feel confident when you fire up all your favorite games even at full high definition resolutions and demanding visual settings. This Hawk edition is a very attractive solution for overclocking enthusiasts who wish to buy an decent but reasonably priced GeForce GTX 470 graphics card. At the same price range, the competition is offering the Radeon HD 5870 series which should deliver similar results.

Nevertheless, the Inno3D GeForce GTX 470 Hawk is a superb solution for power users offering great performance, high overclocking margins and it is available at a reasonable price for the category. And this is certainly a good choice if you are looking for the GeForce GTX 400 series.
