Despite the fact that something new will not come out of the GT200 architecture manufacturers are just doing their best to attract customers to their models. And either it's the bundle, design of the card itself or pricing, some argument should exist. MSI decided to trade on prestige and design so as a result we got the MSI GeForce GTX 285 SuperPipe version featuring 2GB of video memory. And while that might not come as a surprise, since also other brands have already come on the market with a 2GB version, the difference would be that MSI is also powering it with their SuperPipe cooling solution. Now on that aspect it is making sure you get more to enjoy games and still able to keep things running cool. - InsideHW MSI GeForce GTX 285 2GB Superpipe Cooler Preview
This card came in the usual MSI box but a rather heavy one. Besides the usual accessories in the package the main culprit for additional weight of the package is just the graphics card itself. The cooling system used on this board is nicely designed, very complex and above all unexpectedly heavy. Their cooling solution is mostly made out of aluminum with lot of heatpipes made out of copper. So of course, now their name SuperPipe makes sense doesn't it? Although there are five heatpipes, which is really nice, two of these are thicker than the others which will conduct the heat much better than the regular ones. Beside these special heatpipes this graphics card has an cooling system cover made out of metal alloy with a fully brushed finish instead of plastics. This also improves the thermal characteristics of the system as a whole. For this system to work properly, besides aluminum fins, two 70mm fans are used which offer satisfactory performance. There are better solutions but these work okay, though generate more noise than most other custom solutions that we saw around. As expected this model achieved good performance levels, so you shouldn't worry much about playing new games even in higher resolutions at maximum settings. The small overclock did result in slightly higher performance compared to referent cards but nothing revolutionary when it comes to these GT200 architecture. New driver revisions did fix some problems in games so gaming experience should be smother than before. The MSI GeForce GTX 285 SuperPipe is one great graphics card and placed at the pinnacle of MSI graphics card lineup. And anyone who decides to purchase this model will be extremely satisfied with its performance and stunning looks.
