The GeForce GTX 285 has been released an long time ago and still remains one of the fastest single GPU cards around. Friend and foe were surprised that ASUS released yet another model in their GeForce GTX 285 lineup, since newer GPU's have been announced for the upcoming quarter. Being known for their Republic of Gamers mainboard lineup, where ASUS just blends looks with special features, components and adds extra overclocking ability. Now they seem to add graphics cards to that lineup too. With the release of the limited edition Mars card, which SLI'ed GeForce GTX 285 chips on one PCB, yet ASUS have still something else up their sleeves with the Matrix edition we are looking at today. - Madshrimps ASUS Extreme GTX 285 Matrix Graphics Card Review
To sum up what AUS did to make this graphics card stand out from the crowd, they deviated from the reference design. Secondly, ASUS enhanced their cooling and pulse width modulation circuitry. There is build in an extra chip that allows monitoring, speed and voltage adjustments via software which is called iTracker. Last but not least they included an feature that allows you to burn your settings into the card's BIOS. With the iTracker software you can switch between the four preset modes and the do it yourself modes. And they claims on this box that the Matrix card runs up to 12% cooler as they have revised the cooler. We're kindly surprised that ASUS build another custom graphics card, right after their magnificent Mars edition. This GeForce GTX 285 Matrix version has got lots of potential to be one of the fastest GeForce GTX 285's out there. Performance is already on par with some other brands pre-overclocked cards. Their new power design is really able to push this card's GPU and memory to its limits. Once the big overclockers figure it all out, they will be able to establish new records with this board for sure. Out of the box their card works like a dream and was able to keep up and surpass the speeds we use for daily use. To top it all off, ASUS improved the cooling system which isn't just some crazy stunt by one of the marketing guys. It really works and is far more efficient then the reference cooler. If you are looking for a new video card, make sure you have a look at this board. It's a very strong performer. And allows easy out of the box overclocking, no real hardware modifications required. The PCB and components seem build to last. Even though it's a late arrival on the market, its features make it stand out from the crowd.
