Gigabyte GeForce GTX 275 (GT200) Graphics Preview
Written by Mavke
Tuesday, 07 July 2009

NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 275 edition was released a few months ago. It's aimed at the higher end of the gaming market, and it's meant to be a direct competitor to ATI's recently launched Radeon HD 4890 graphics card. We know we are in the middle of a recession, which could be the reason there have been short supplies of these boards on the market. We have only just managed to get a sample from Gigabyte and we are just very keen to check it out. Earlier this year we had the controversial release of their GeForce GTS 250, a simple rebranding. And, when NVIDIA released the GeForce GTX 275, we were rather intrigued to see whether this card was actually a new product or just a re-package old model. - CPU3D

Well, you will be glad to know that it is a newer model with a new graphics core. It's based on the GT200b chipset which is processed via 55nm technology and runs at a default speed of 633MHz, while the memory is clocked at 2268MHz. It also features a 448-bit memory interface as well as 240 stream processors. It's not NVIDIA's flagship model, but it should just pack a heavy punch in terms of performance, especially considering it's a direct competitior to ATI's Radeon HD 4890, plus the fact that it's aimed at the higher-end of the gaming market. While on top, Gigabyte included their 2oz copper PCB technology on their version.

When NVIDIA first announced these GeForce GTX 275 we thought here we go again, what have they released now? We are glad to say the GeForce GTX 275 is not a re-vamped, but a new card that sits kinda in between the GeForce GTX 260 and the GeForce GTX 285 version. From the benchmark results, we see that the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 275 competes very well against the Radeon HD 4890. Though keep in mind that the Radeon HD 4890 is currently ATI's flagship model and we need to take into account that it was already factory overclocked. And we would love to see how well it performs when you actually overclock it.

What makes the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 275 so extremely attractive is that their development team has worked really hard to integrate their quite innovative ultra durable technology with their graphics cards. Now you have a graphics card that features a 2oz copper PCB, Japanese solid capacitors, ferrite chokes and much more. This gives their graphics cards extra reliability, increased energy efficiency and better cooling. The GeForce GTX 275 card is probably one of NVIDIA's better releases of this year, and which is also why the Gigabyte version can offer good performance and great features.
