Sparkle GeForce GTX 275 Video Card Edition Preview
Written by Mavke
Thursday, 02 July 2009

So if you have followed the graphics card industry for any length of time, you are undoubtedly familiar with vendors such as ASUS, Gigabyte or MSI. The GeForce GTX 275 card we are looking at today is from a manufacturer we're not personally familiar with, though Newegg's substantial selection of various Sparkle products suggests it has flown under our radar. At the same time however, the company's website has a large coming soon tag hanging off it. Luckily the main Taiwanese domain has any information you need and it's easy enough to find product data. Sparkle produces two variations of the GeForce GTX 275, one being the standard version and also one edition being slightly overclocked. - LegitReviews

Save for a bit of custom artwork, this is a bog standard NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 design. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that but it doesn't leave Sparkle's GeForce GTX 275 much to shine with when it comes to enticing customers away from other, potentially better known brands. Although Sparkle has done some of its own custom cooler design at other times, but for now the company is sticking close to home. Neither their GeForce GTX 275 nor its primary competitor, the ATI Radeon HD 4890 are new entries to the field, but driver updates and a swap to an AMD based platform may cast performance in a different light.

If you are in the market for an new video card and wondering if Sparkle is a brand you can trust, we would say the answer is yes. The company's card and bundle doesn't include any goodies or extras to surprise, but the actual product is as stable as one could ask for, and that's what ultimately matters. And as for the GeForce GTX 275, it's a solid design that is generally a bit faster than its closest competitor, the Radeon HD 4890 edition. But the GeForce GTX 275 is also a bit more expensive than its closest ATI competitor, so the price to performance ratio between the two is more or less consistent.

And if we were personally in the market for a new card at the moment, we would probably be eyeing the GeForce GTX 275, and based on our experience with the company, we would be willing to buy a Sparkle as opposed to a brand we're more familiar with. So for a company that's still attempting to establish itself as a well known presence on this side of the Pacific, Sparkle's made a good start. It's a tough choice to make, but with slightly better performance and features like PhysX and CUDA in general the GeForce GTX 275 graphics card will be the right choice for many looking for upgrading their system.
