Welcome to the first article about the GeForce GTX 295 single PCB version. And well, NVIDIA sometimes works in mysterious ways. We've all been hearing about this product for a long time now though yet at the threshold of its actual release, everything remains quiet on the side of team green. There are of course reasons behind that choice and allow us to explain. Now the new updated version of the GeForce GTX 295 based on a single PCB is exactly that, just an update. Nothing just new is to be found on the product when it comes to clocks, thermals, power consumption and so on. So why is this product replacing the dual PCB version of the GeForce GTX 295 series then you ask? Simply cost control. - Guru3D Point of View GeForce GTX 295 Single Board Preview
The dual PCB versions are being sold with little to no profit at all. And that's just not healthy business for any company. The demand of these GeForce GTX 295 products is much higher than originally anticipated as well. We mean face it, the GeForce GTX 295 series graphics cards just offer astounding performance for the money you need to lay down on that counter. So NVIDIA had to come up with a different approach, cut some costs on board design and re-launch it. In a nutshell this is what that GeForce GTX 295 single PCB is all about, a revised version of that old product. And the rest is just all the same, except the layout inside. Now here's the trick, the old model GeForce GTX 295 might be one card. But it had two separate PCB's inside that package. Each card had to double up on components and each card carried one GPU. From a cost perspective, it's just not the best route to opt for. Now a cheaper solution is to place the two GPU's needed for the GeForce GTX 295 onto one PCB, as such you can save on a lot of components and leave out one PCB. There are challenges though. Two GPU's on a single PCB often result in thermal issues. It's as simple as this, GPU's get hot, very hot. And the closer these GPU's are placed together, the warmer. Much like any of these GeForce GTX 295 articles, we can only conclude that the GeForce GTX 295 single PCB graphics card owns. And really it's a 480 shader processor encounting raw fricking compute monster, we liked their first model when it was released and we like this version just as well. Granted though, when you compare everything back and forth with both the old and new versions, for us there are no real big pros or cons to mention. So everything is the same when it comes to performance, price, features and specifications. Is there an advantage to be found over the previous model then? Well physically no not really. The Point of View's offering will be interesting, although the product of course is fully reference, they top it off with an okay bundle and a three year warranty. Next to already offering a ridiculous amount of raw gaming performance, you also can overclock it pretty darn good as well. And pretty soon you will be able to find this product for roughly $449 in e-tail. It surely is a lot of money but we feel it is a fair price for what you are purchasing.
