TwinTech GeForce GTS 250 XT 1GB Graphics Review
Written by Mavke
Friday, 24 April 2009

It's been a bit few and far between seeing cards from TwinTech, but today we've got a new one that sits in with their XT series of overclocked cards. The particular model we're looking at today is the GeForce GTS 250 XT 1GB OverClock edition. Since the GeForce GTS 250 is nothing more than a rebranded GeForce 9800 GTX+, so companies have been able to attack the new model quickly and swiftly with modifications in regards to its cooling and clock speeds. TwinTech in true XT fashion has chosen to mix it up in both the clock speed department and also the cooling one. The TwinTech board really does have a bit of competition as we've seen a few companies already ramping up the clocks speeds. - TweakTown

Having a look at the package we can see that TwinTech have taken the time to add a window to the front of the box so that we can see the card. This is always nice as it's good to see what exactly you're buying. To the left we see mention that the card comes with 1GB of GDDR3 memory along with some of the main features like dual link DVI and HDMI interfaces. Now moving upwards we can see some NVIDIA logos along with the OC edition one and the model, in this case the GeForce GTS 250 as we've already mentioned. Moving to the top of the box we have the TwinTech logo and a bit of a picture happening.

Having a look at the board we can see that TwinTech have opted for the Arctic Cooling Accelero Twin Turbo which is quickly becoming quite a popular cooler for mid-range NVIDIA graphics cards. Across the bottom we can see four heatpipes that come straight out from where the core is and then move into a heap of fins. Behind the two fans we can see all the aluminum fins and if you look carefully you can see two heatpipes behind each fan. We can see that TwinTech have placed a sticker above each fan to let us know the brand while we also have the model of the cooler in the middle which is a nice reference as such.

Being a part of the XT series the card is of course overclocked as we've already mentioned. While TwinTech haven't gone crazy with the clocks, they've given the card a slight bump which should warrant a little performance increase. The core has moved to a more rounded 750MHz, while the shader clock has remained at the same 1836MHz speed. And as for the 1GB of GDDR3 memory, that's moved to 2250MHz effective, not a huge overclock but an overclock none the less. The TwinTech GeForce GTS 250 is an excellent board to add to their XT OverClock series from the company and will expand these series even further.

What we have got is a card that performs well up to mid-range widescreen in its stock form which now performs slightly better thanks to a slightly higher core and memory clock, which is what we always love to see. While the bundle is a bit on the light side, we do have everything we need to get up and running and of course the most important part, the graphics card is included. Apart from the overclock the other stand out feature is the cooler which does a good job of keeping the card cool while also keeping noise levels down. If you're looking for a GeForce GTS 250 and want to mix it up a bit, the TwinTech video card is a good option.

We have got a nice little boost in performance and a good cooling solution that keeps the core temperature at bay while not generating too much noise. While we would have liked to have seen something extra in the bundle, games being included are becoming more and more uncommon and we don't need a DVI to HDMI connector in the bundle thanks to TwinTech implementing it directly onto the PCB. What we also like is that TwinTech has chosen to include two dual link DVI connectors on the graphics card.
