NVIDIA To Show Their GeForce GTX 295 In Las Vegas
Written by Mavke

NVIDIA will officially introduce the GeForce GTX 295, a dual headed 55nm card at CES on the 8th of January in Las Vegas. We already made a preview of the card and it is clear that it wins over ATI's dual headed Radeon HD 4870 X2. The 55nm based GeForce GTX 260 card with 216 shaders is already quasi available. NVIDIA has been shipping these chips for at least three weeks now but it takes some time to manufacture these cards and ship them to Europe and US. EVGA got its first batch in both continents and at the same time the GeForce GTX 285, the 55nm version of the faster GT200b chip with 240 shaders will launch. Don't expect miracles, as this is just slightly higher clocked card. - FudZilla

Although as based upon the new 55nm GT200 chipset you can expect some additional overclocking potential. That is just normal when going for a die shrink as that means less power needs and as such also less heat being produced. These two factors mean that these new 55nm chips will run smoother with less and as such will have more potential that can be unlocked, and that is what the hardcore gamers will surely loook for to gain some new overclocking hights. And make no mistake as this is really what we all have been waiting for since the introduction of the GeForce GTX 200 series earlier this year.

This move of NVIDIA towards the 55nm process technique will put it back at the top of the chain and as such reclaim the performance crown that they had in their ranks for so long. These new products that are based upon the GT200b chipset will put NVIDIA back on the map and will give them the chance to work towards the next enhancement and also moving towards the 40nm technology and following ATI in that direction. We certainly can't wait to get our hands on one of these babies, to find out the actual overclocking potential.
