We have learned that NVIDIA has tens of thousands GeForce GTX 260 cards and this is the main reason why it doesn't want to re-launch the GeForce GTX 260 with a rebranding of GeForce GTX 265 and increase the clock speeds. And a few independent sources have said that NVIDIA strictly said that they are not allowed to announce that the cards they are shipping have the 55nm GT200b core and if they do such a thing, there might be some consequences. This card with a new driver is looking like a better choice than the Radeon HD 4870 but NVIDIA still has quite a few 65nm ones to sell. But our guess would be that the big partners might get the 55nm version a bit sooner once they run out of stock. - FudZilla NVIDIA Still Has Many GeForce GTX 260 65nm Boards
The reasons are quite obvious as NVIDIA would kill the GeForce GTX 260 65nm sales if the market knew that there is a new better chip that costs the same or almost the same. And we are still confident that the 55nm version of the GeForce GTX 260 will overclock much better and naturally, it needs much less power than 182W, being the current power requirement for GeForce GTX 260 cards at 65nm process. This also based on the recent previews floating around on the GeForce GTX 295 which is based on two 55nm GT200 chips, on one single graphics card to fight of the Radeon HD 4870 X2 and regain the performance title. For all of us out there really waiting on the 55nm version of the GeForce GTX 260 it will be a game of luck, but also patience. Cause the longer you wait, the more 65nm chips will be sold, lowerering the stock of NVIDIA and leading than towards only being left with the 55nm chips to power their GeForce GTX 260 series.
