NVIDIA has three new cards. The first one is 55nm version of the GeForce GTX 260, which will keep the same brand, the second is the dual GT200b 55nm branded GeForce GTX 295 and the last one is the faster GT200b single 55nm chip based GeForce GTX 285. Samples of the GeForce GTX 285 should be out and about at CES, while we are keep hearing that the card will be launched in mid January, at least officially. The new GeForce GTX 285 should be clocked at 648MHz core, 1476MHz shaders and 2484MHz memory. It still has 240 shaders with 32 raster units, but this time around the cards thermal design power is 183W, while the GeForce GTX 280 had 236W, with a 602MHz core. - FudZilla NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 Showing At CES Tradeshow
The introduction of the GeForce GTX 285 means the GeForce GTX 280 is facing death, so NVIDIA is trying to sell the last of these cards to make space for the new one. We are very sure that many will overclock this card beyond 700MHz. And we would even dare to say these should even hit higher as the GeForce GTX 280 could be overclocked to 700MHz already. Though as we have seen in the past, the switch to a smaller die process also means less power needs. This would lead to less voltage needed for the core to run at 648MHz and in that case also limit the overclocking limits due to the reduced core voltage all together. Though this would be logic to have less voltage on the core, there might still be a way to increase it somehow. Although that really depends a lot on NVIDIA of what they would be allowing. By all means the 55nm chipset will consume less power, meaning will generate less heat and therefore be having a greater chance of beging a better overclocker. So for now it is really wait and see.
