The soon to launch 55nm based GeForce GTX 260 with 216 shaders will stick with the GeForce GTX 260 brand. The reason is quite simple. NVIDIA sits on a huge 65nm inventory and as soon as they would introduce a card with a new brand, they would kill the sales of old GeForce GTX 260 cards, and therefore manufacturers will be asked not to specially promote the new 55nm parts. You can bet that the 55nm version of the GeForce GTX 260 will overclock better and the great news is that it will sell at the same price as the 65nm card. The 55nm version comes with 216 Shaders and the same official 575MHz clock speed but it definitely overclocks better than the old cards based on 65nm. - FudZilla GeForce GTX 260 55nm Core 216 No Naming Rebrand
These cards will be sneaked to market in the next two weeks but we are not sure how would you be able to tell if you got the 55nm card, without taking the cooler off and inspecting the card. The story is completely different for the GeForce GTX 285, which is actually a 55nm version of the GeForce GTX 280 graphics card, which will as far as we picked up come as higher clock speeds. And according to some this would be 648MHz core and 2484MHz memory clock speed. It's noteworthy that the improvement of shader frequency has exceeded that of core frequency. In another word which means a slight performance improvement. And NVIDIA is planning to launch its new flagship card, what will be called the GeForce GT X295 on January 8th next year to fight back the Radeon HD 4870 X2 graphics accelerator. This means NVIDIA will naturally reclaim the performance crown, which is in the end the sole and only goal behind this release.
