Dual Powered GT200 55nm Is GeForce GTX 295 Style
Written by Mavke

We can confirm that the dual GT200 55nm, a chip that many call the GT200b, will be branded as GeForce GTX 295. The new card will definitely outrun AMD's Radeon HD 4870 X2 and it will finally return the performance crown back to NVIDIA. The board is a sandwich design, with two PCB's with two chips. We heard that the card comes with one 6-pin and one 8-pin connector but still have to confirm this. On the high-end, Intel based machine you can score over 20k points in 3DMark Wantage, which is a new record and is dramatically faster than any other card before. In this particular test it is at least 1.7 times faster than a single card but it won't be the case in most of the games. - FudZilla

The dual card will be faster than single in many games but not by such a dramatic margin. You will need at least an above average widescreen resolution with all on to see the performance but the biggest performance gains enjoyed on those nice widescreen 30-inch screens. This means as well that the the beast will need to get enough data to process, which means some decent CPU power would be required. Which in the end is quite logic as the CPU still comes into play at lot, just as the system memory. The first official scores will be out later this week, while the official launch is during CES next year, so early January.

At the same time we shoudl expect to the see as well the single 55nm GT200 based graphics cards on the market, where we could already say that the GeForce GTX 280 will be most likely rebranded as the GeForce GTX 285 due to a new PCB design and enhanced clock speed settings. The GeForce GTX 285 with the highest clock and lowest power consumption is undoubtedly the most powerful board in single GPU cards, while new GeForce GTX 260 arouses the most attention in middle and high-end cards price war. The dual GPU based GeForce GTX 295 is expected to regain the crown of performance.
