GeForce GTX 280 55nm Single And Still Not Available
Written by Mavke

We spoke with people who are selling NVIDIA cards and they said that they have yet to see a GeForce GTX 280 55nm card. Some of our sources have suggested that this card might be even renamed to GeForce GTX 285. The cards are still not available to etail and retail customers and most of the cards that you buy in the store today will still have the 65nm GT200 chip inside. NVIDIA has been slow to introduce its 55nm GT200 but this chip will also power the soon to come dual GT200 card, again a 55nm solution and NVIDIA also has promised many new GeForce GTX 280 and GeForce GTX 260 graphics cards with the same 55nm chip, which means the 65nm days are about to end very soon. - FudZilla

As far as NVIDIA is concerned, the 65nm GT200 production is over and they have been manufacturing 55nm chips for at least three to four weeks now, but for some reason these cards have yet to make it to end users. That would mean though that NVIDIA is building up a good stock for its partners and as such also trying to give some more time to sell out their 65nm stock of chips where they have lowered the price on their GeForce GTX 260 series. We still hope somehow that the 55nm GT200 will be available soon, cause it will be most interesting, with surely the power and heat being reduced will help much.

Although it will soon launch the GeForce GTX 295 and retake the performance lead, at the moment the green giant is just struggling to offer truly competitive products in the mainstream and low-end. We've spent quite a bit of time bargain hunting and came back almost empty handed and it seems that Santa will be handing out some red cards, to go along with his Coca Cola red outfit.
