Before we start, if you look at our graphics card section, you'll notice that most of the articles are based on ATI cards. It's not that we're biased and prefer ATI cards over NVIDIA, but for some reason most of the manufacturers that we deal with, are close partners with ATI. Although NVIDIA cards have in the past been the prefered choice for gamers, but ATI are seriously making big gains in the graphics card market. This is all thanks to their Radeon HD 4800 series and at that time, they were cheaper than NVIDIA's equivalent, with performance that were just as good. Palit is quite unique in the sense that, they are one of only a few manufacturers who are partners of both NVIDIA and AMD. - CPU3D Palit GeForce 9800 GTX+ Customized Cooling Review
Thanks to our friends at Palit, who we met at Computex we can now take a look at the Palit GeForce 9800 GTX+ edition. What makes this graphics card different from other standard GeForce 9800 GTX's, is the fact that this version, the GTX+ uses NVIDIA's latest G92 GPU produced from their 55nm technology process. When ATI released their Radeon HD 4800 cards, they were already using 55nm GPU's, along with support for DirectX 10.1, custom anti-aliasing, 800 stream processors and up to 4-way CrossFire. With all these new exciting technologies, NVIDIA was stumpped. And a massive price war emerged as such. Lowering prices is one thing, but what about the new stuff? Surely, NVIDIA must come up with something new. Well, finally after several months, NVIDIA is trying to gain some respect by introducing their new 55nm GPU's in the form of the GeForce 9800 GTX+. Incidently, NVIDIA's high-end GeForce GTX 260 and GTX 280 are still based on the older 65nm process. Though NVIDIA plans to replace these older GPU's the newer 55nm over the next few months. But that's not it, there's going to be a lot more to come from NVIDIA. We've recently heard that they're concentrating their efforts on finding new ways to fully utilise the GPU. After being away from the NVIDIA scene for a few months, we were surprised to see that NVIDIA hasn't lost its sparkle just yet. The Palit Geforce 9800 GTX+ is a very good performing graphics card. And it produced very good scores in all our benchmarks, easily beating the standard GeForce 9800 GTX version. We don't know what to really say about the new 55nm G92 chips from NVIDIA. It performs slightly better than the standard GeForce 9800 GTX, but we personally wouldn't say its a whole new card in itself. The question is whether it's another attempt by NVIDIA to try and get more money out of consumers? Pricewise, the Palit GeForce 9800 GTX+ version should cost roughly around $250, which we think is correctly priced. You'll probably find that the Palit brand will be a lot cheaper than other big brands on the market. If you are a NVIDIA fan and you're looking for a decent graphics card that offers good performance with new features then the Palit GeForce 9800 GTX+ is definitely worth considering. Featuring NVIDIA's new 55nm G92 core that's slightly overclocked 745MHz, it's probably one of the most affordable GeForce 9800 GTX+ available on the market.
