Palit is not known for launching cutting edge products ahead of the competition, as they can be described as the tortoise in a race against the hare. What Palit does do well is deliver a refined product to store shelves. The Palit Revolution 700 Deluxe is one such example, which offers the Radeon HD 4870 X2 with 2GB of GDDR5 memory and is cooled by a proprietary triple slot thermal solution. Now technology just doesn't play favorites, and when it reaches an apex there is an indifference towards who develops it. ATI has learned this lesson the hard way, having watched from the sidelines for so long that most have forgotten that AMD could be a leader in technology, and made the first step. - Benchmark Reviews Palit Revolution 700 Deluxe CrossFire Design Review
Their Radeon HD 4870 X2 is the latest evolution in graphics cards, and ATI has delivered something bigger than we've ever seen before. With their custom triple decker cooling solution, Palit makes the Radeon HD 4870 X2 bigger than ever. We live in a world where a company that produces the most powerful video card available is usually regarded as the leader in graphics technology. There is a certain amount of truth to this to be fair, but it's not always good to be the king. We imagine NVIDIA has to be getting a little tired of constantly polishing the throne, especially after the launch of the GeForce GTX 280 graphics card. When we first held Sapphire's Radeon HD 4870 X2 several months back, it seems like the card was abnormally long and heavy. Perhaps the problem with the Radeon HD 4870 X2 design was that it really is abnormally long, or even out of proportion. Palit takes the long double slot design and adds another level for improved cooling. The end result is named the Palit Revolution 700 Deluxe. We suppose that one Radeon HD 4870 X2, even if it takes up three expansion slots, is better than the mess two Radeon HD 4870's can make. Surprisingly the Palit version is actually lighter than the reference design due to use of heatpipes. The Palit Revolution 700 Deluxe graphics card uses the classic ATI red PCB and offers a triple slot cooling solution for the PCI Express 2.0 bus. There are a few small details that seem to stand out as either interesting or unique. The Palit Revolution 700 utilizes a full length triple decker cooling unit to keep the twin RV770 cores well below the reference operating specifications. While the custom designed fan unit obviously seems to cool well enough, we are very disappointed that more thought was given to a more functional design. The two 80mm cooling fans located atop the cooling unit shroud draws air in towards the heatpipes. In summary, hardcore gamers give the Palit Radeon HD 4870 X2 very serious consideration because it truly is the most powerful video card at the moment. If your budget can't afford this top shelf graphics solution, keep in mind that two Radeon HD 4850's placed into CrossFireX often times performed very close as a pair to this standalone product. This situation makes a very good argument for multi graphics solutions over multi GPU, and with this taken into consideration you have to look at price and sub-feature offerings. Value is always relative to whatever retailers think they can get consumers to pay for a product. And well it's no surprise that CrossFireX is available on just about every single motherboard that fits an Intel or AMD processor over the past few years while the same is hardly true for the SLI technology. Both the Radeon HD 4850 and Radeon HD 4870 are now offered at very affordable prices, and if you price shop they can yield more performance for less cash than the purchase of a single Radeon 4870 X2. The Palit Revolution 700 Deluxe is an outstanding product, and the combined RV770 GPU's raise the bar for graphics performance yet again.
