Hardware Analysis has published a review on the nVidia GeForce 6600GT AGP. Well, rest assured, AGP is still here, it isn't exactly alive and kicking, but some manufacturers haven't abandoned the platform just yet and are releasing new products so you have somewhat of an upgrade path. nVidia is the first manufacturer to, not surprisingly, port a native PCI-Express graphic card to AGP.
GeForce 6600GT AGP, as good as it gets?
The graphic card in question is the GeForce 6600GT, which is a mid-range card that sits below the 6800 series and offers great performance at an affordable price. When nVidia launched the 6600GT one of our first questions actually was whether there'll be a native AGP part, as it would offer a worthwhile upgrade path to users with an AGP motherboard.
As is evident from the benchmarks the GeForce 6600GT AGP puts all of the previous generation graphic cards to shame. ATI opted to put the Radeon 9800 Pro up against the GeForce 6600GT AGP, but not even the Radeon 9800XT can keep up, effectively putting the 6600GT AGP well ahead of the pack. So in summary, what does the GeForce 6600GT AGP bring to the table? Quite a lot to be honest; the majority of the 6-series features, compatibility with AGP motherboards and solid performance, as is evident from the benchmarks. To put it simply; if you are shopping for a new AGP videocard at around $200 then look no further, this is as good as it gets. |
