NVIDIA To Come With 55nm Refresh For GT200 Chips
Written by Mavke

And there you have it, NVIDIA is going to refresh its GT200 offering with a 55nm version of the chip. We don't know many details, but they will get faster and they might give NVIDIA a fighting chance again. We heard that they might be out by November, but this is not something we can just confirm at this moment. There should be two products, one to replace the GeForce GTX 280 and one to replace GeForce GTX 260. From the original prognosis these new cards might actually end up marginally faster than the Radeon HD 4870 and even Radeon HD 4870 X2, but it won't leave them in the dust, which means that NVIDIA will have to wait for 40nm chips in 2009 to turn the situation around. - FudZilla

The good thing is that they are coming. Another nws is the rebranding, we don't know when it will start, but NVIDIA wants to change the way it brands its cards. The GeForce GTX 280 and GTX 260 were the first step and now we are hearing that G92 based cards might get renamed to the GT100 series. There will be a GT50 series, something for the low-end and this will make NVIDIA's roadmap a bit clearer than it is today. You have cards such as GeForce 9800 GTX which where based on the 65nm G92 chips and the newer GTX+ is based on the G92b, a 55nm version of the chip, and this is not so easy to follow.
