MSI Radeon HD 4670 512MB Graphics Edition Review
Written by Mavke

Today we find ourselves once again looking at one of the new mid-range ATI based graphics cards. The particular card we're looking at today is the Radeon HD 4670 which impressed us at launch just the other week. With MSI's version in hand, we will see if it can manage to impress us like the Sapphire did. The mid-range market is no doubt one of the most important segments for both AMD and NVIDIA, as this is where the quantity is found. With the card in hand, let's take the time to see what's going on in the package department while also seeing what MSI have done to the card itself. So with that said, let's get straight into the package and see what MSI have chosen to include. - TweakTown

It doesn't come as any real surprise that MSI have opted to make use of a smaller box design to help keep the transportation costs down. Across the top of the box we see the MSI logo along with the ATI one. Towards the middle of the box we have the model and below that some of the main features like dual link DVI, 512MB of GDDR3 memory and at the very bottom the mention of the card being part of the gaming series. Turning the box over, we have some information about the features along with the system requirements and we also have a bit of talk about the cards HDMI capabilities and the DVI connector.

Pulling the card out of the box, we can see the red PCB that we've become quite accustomed to seeing from MSI. Sitting on top of the GPU is quite an impressive looking cooler for a mid-range card, with a massive copper base and aluminum fins, the whole cooler feels of the highest quality. Being a mid-range card there isn't any extra power needed, so the only extra connectors that we see floating around are the two CrossFire connectors located at the top of the card in the event you want to put two of these cards together. The MSI card carries with it stock clocks which put the core at 750MHz and the memory at 2000MHz.

The Radeon HD 4670 is an impressive card. It offers some good numbers for a mid-range card while being competitive on the price front. With the MSI Radeon HD 4670 coming clocked in at default speeds, it's no surprise that the performance of the card is extremely similar to the Sapphire option. Fortunately, the card is not just a copy cat though, the cooler that MSI have opted for, while being dual slot, is nothing short of fantastic and helps keeps temps way down. It also manages to be slightly quieter than the cooler that Sapphire has chosen due to the fact that MSI have gone for a bigger fan that spins slower.

Where MSI have disappointed us is in the package department, the quiet cooler and excellent cooling performance would have made it a great companion for a home theatre PC, but the lack of TV-out or included HDMI connector means that it's really not an option. The MSI Radeon HD 4670 is a good card, but with a few extras it could have been great. We're sure that MSI will probably make more variations of the card and hopefully the HDMI connectivity is something they look at. While the performance of the card is good and the quality of the cooler is second to none, it does miss out on some features.
