The basic GeForce 9800 GT, the graphics card that launches today are the same G92 65nm based cards. They are basically GeForce 8800 GT's with a new box, cooler sticker and BIOS. The BIOS will tell the G92 chip to represent itself as GeForce 9800 GT but these cards won't actually support HybridPower. This card will remain on market as long as there are enough 65nm G92 chips and it will be replaced completely with 55nm G92b chips as soon as possible. The basic card will be identical to most non overclocked GeForce 8800 GT's on the market but as you know people like to buy higher numbers and therefore we expect that the GeForce 9800 GT will sell quite well. - FudZilla NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT Series be Launching Today
The GeForce 9800 GT and GeForce 9800 GT HybridPower are launching today and believe it or not, these are two different cards after all. The basic GeForce 9800 GT is nothing more than a new BIOS and a re-brand of the GeForce 8800 GT card but the second GeForce 9800 GT that supports HybridPower will actually be based on the 55nm G92b chip. You need the new chip to support HybridPower and this is one of the key features of the GeForce 9 series, the only draw back is that you need an NVIDIA chipset to make it work. The good way to determine if the card is 55nm or 65nm is the HybridPower support. According to some sources, NVIDIA's renamed GeForce 8800 GT, the GeForce 9800 GT card should be launched on July 29th. Of course, as it is just a plain renaming and/or rebranding we are still looking at the same G92 chip made at 65nm. There isn't anything excitingly new with this card, as it will only come with HybridPower support, but we wouldn't call that a new thing. There has been some talk that NVIDIA is going to postpone or cancel the launch of this card but, as for now, we should see these cards announced today. The 55nm version of the GeForce 9800 GT will come a bit later, but the precise date is unknown. The price is still unknown, but you could expect it to fit somewhere at $150-175 price range. And the GeForce 8800 GT version was a great card when it came out but market just got crowded and quite a lot of consumers are getting quite annoyed by NVIDIA's renaming and rebranding game.
