ATI RV770 XT And PRO Cards to Launch on June 16th
Written by Mavke
Saturday, 17 May 2008

The upcoming ATI RV770 XT with GDDR5 memory support and the RV770 PRO with GDDR3 support based graphics cards will launch on June 16th, just days before NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 280 product codenamed GT200. ATI wants to spoil NVIDIA's party, but in the end, it will all come down to the fact of which will be faster. From what we know it looks like the GT200 based products should end up faster than the RV770 XT, but we believe that the R700 with its two RV770 chips should be the real GT200 competitor. As we said before, the R700 dual chip card will launch at some point in August, which gives NVIDIA quite a lead. Though it could quickly turn depending on what this dual-GPU version will bring. - FudZilla

The RV770 PRO is a GDDR3 version of the RV770 chip and we've found out that the samples out in the wild are working at 625MHz. The samples are based on revision A12, which is usually ATI's production revision. The sample board was equipped with GDDR3 memory clocked at 2000MHz and we've heard that GDDR5 samples are expected any day now. Both these RV770 XT and PRO versions are scheduled for a June 16th launch, just two days before the GeForce GTX 280 should launch. Which might be a bit annoying for NVIDIA thought it will surely depend on who wil have the faster graphics card.
