We saw some GeForce 6600AGP numbers and I can tell you that if you liked PCIe 6600 GT, you won't be disappointed. nVidia plans to lift its dark veils of NDA gloom on Tuesday, and then you will be able to get a complete picture of how this new product performs.
6600 AGP scores revealed
It will score 7600 in 3DMark03 and 3000 in new 3DMark05. Card is clocked at
500MHz core, 450MHz memory and from what we saw it will come either close or tight with its PCIe brother card. In case you haven't noticed, the memory used on this card is clocked 100MHz lower than the 500/1000MHz clocked GeForce 6600 GT PCIe. We will ask around, but I guess nVidia did it to compensate the cost of more expensive and complex PCB and bridge chip with cheaper memory. Still, it
works fine - at least according to the numbers we've seen.
As you might imagine, this card is nothing more than a NV43 chip + BR2 bridge from nVidia that can bridge a PCIe card to AGP. It seems to work and it's not slower. Sometimes it can even end up faster, and it's trouble free, it appears.
I am sure that you will be able to see many results for this card on Tuesday this week. If you liked the GeForce 6600GT PCIe you will certainly like the AGP version there is no doubt about it. |
