Extreme Overclocking Performance

When looking at the Gainward version of the BLISS 9800 GX2 graphics card, we somehow got the feeling that this card is capable of more. The looks and design suspect that this dual GPU version has really been designed to deliver stunning performance, but that some still has to be discovered as well. Since some other manufacturers have already released some overclocked editions of the GeForce 9800 GX2 graphics card we just want to see how far we can stretch the limits. And well overclocking, unlocking the extra performance is exactly what we have done. And we do have to admit, the G92 graphics core powering the GeForce 9800 GX2 might feature a voltage increase via a simple BIOS tweak, though we actually didn't have much time to check this out. Although it is only a hunch, due to the BIOS coming with two unknown voltage lines which might give an increase though we doubt is somehow.

We just overclocked the core and memory by upping the clock speeds and that resulted in decent performance increase. As you can clearly see from the figures we gotten from running Unreal Tournament 3 a nice boost is noticeable. During all our benchmarks the Gainward BLISS 9800 GX2 version kept on humming stable with no hickups to finally set the top speed at 700/2200MHz. Would you have thought so? Well we suspected the GeForce 9800 GX2 graphics card to be quite overclock friendly but such a nice increase we didn't expect, especially taking into account that is actually having two GPU's running together in SLI mode which does brings double the extra heat when running at overclocked settings. But the standard GeForce 9800 GX2 version certainly has quite some hidden potential.

Final Thoughts

We are nicely impressed by the GeForce 9800 GX2 version from Gainward, simply by the fact that it does offer SLI in a compact solution and delivering great gaming pleasure. Most of use where actually waiting for quite a while now for the renewed GX2 as it the news was travelling already for quite some time. We received the Gainward card, which was actually their standard version following the reference design. In fact, this time Gainward didn't make any other version, most likely because NVIDIA didn't give permission at first to the manufacturers to do so. And in the end, it doesn't really matter that much as the default version does get the job done and takes it rightful place all the way up at the top of the high-end graphics card segment. That means that old GeForce 8800 Ultra champion is finally outranked and can enjoy its retirement.

The Gainward version of the GeForce 9800 GX2 card is identical to the reference design laid out by NVIDIA featuring the same dual slot cooling solution. This is actually good news as the reference cooler is quiet though very efficient and takes up two slots. As we mentioned before, this is just normal since the GX2 is actually two cards in one single package, which means that it really does save some space compared to the single GPU solution that also have a dual slot cooling solution. The new G92 chip has really made room for NVIDIA to come up with a full range of new video cards, and did allow them to put two of the GPU's together to offer a full renewed GX2 solution, and revive their former quad SLI technology. Indeed you can just pair up two of the GeForce 9800 GX2 cards and enjoy a full fetched quad GPU solution.

What is generally the most exciting part about the graphics card these days is without a doubt the overclocking ability. The Gainward BLISS 9800 GX edition hit straight on a score of 650/2100MHz which is in many cases the pre-overclocked settings of the special versions. But that wasn't the end of it. Due to the high-end memory chips we could take this card further than we expected to hit a final top of 700/2200MHz. This is surely some good news as that means that many will be able to enjoy some nice overclocking and as such enjoy even more the newest games. With Gainward and its company commitment to bring the end user the best possible video card experience and customer support, you are sure to have a professional experience. Gainward puts the consumer first and offers one of the best sales and support staff in the business.

The Gainward BLISS 9800 GX2 graphics card is an outstanding video card that promises to deliver outstanding performance for any game you throw at it. We showed that the GeForce 9800 GX2 version can handle gaming at incredible frame rates even at extreme high definition resolutions. So, if you are looking for a new GPU for an upgrade or fresh system build, you will find the Gainward BLISS 9800 GX2 very inviting as the performance is outstanding, and comes at a good price level compared to their competitors. By all means we can highly recommend the Gainward version of the GeForce 9800 GX2 for any gamer that wants to enjoy the latest games titles without losing out on any frame rate. It will give you an experience beyond your senses!
