NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB SLI Edition Review
Written by Mavke
Tuesday, 29 April 2008

When we took the initial look at the GeForce 9800 GTX from NVIDIA, we were far from impressed. Over its previous counterpart the GeForce 8800 GTX, there was not much improvement in performance while the prices were about the same as AMD's dual-GPU based Radeon HD 3870 X2 cards which we preferred. Today, we set two of these cards in SLI and we did a quick check for online priced before the article. Surprisingly, these cards are available for as low as $300 in the US which means that sooner than later, the local market will also see a price drop. With some lowering of the price tag, two of these do look very promising. Lets find out how two GeForce 9800 GTX cards in SLI perform. - t-break

Generally speaking, you can get two GeForce 8800 GTX cards for $700 while two GeForce 9800 GTX cards for $600. On the dual-GPU front, a pair of Radeon HD 3870 X2 cards would set you back close to $800 while the GeForce 9800 GX2 comes out as the most expensive at $1000. Keeping that in mind, lets analyze some of the games we looked at. Company of Heroes, Crysis and World in Conflict performed exceptionally well on the GeForce 9800 GTX in SLI mode with the scores being the best or second best in just about every test for these games. That's seven out of the ten games we've looked at.

What more do you want us to say? By itself, we're still a bit disappointed with the GeForce 9800 GTX card but put two of these together and you can see some pretty incredible performance. So if you're looking for a dual card solution, the GeForce 9800 GTX in SLI is probably your best option at the moment costing quite a bit less than most other cards in its performance range and delivering one heck of a punch. At least we liked it.
