Leadtek WinFast PX9600 GT 512MB Graphics Preview
Written by Mavke

The GeForce 9600 GT from NVIDIA is a pretty decent GPU as far as the price to performance ratio is concerned and thus its no surprise to see many vendors jumping on it. The GeForce 9600 GT is bringing a new mid-range graphics card that will be replacing the GeForce 8600 GT, and lifting the gaming experience to the next level. This is actually the second card in the new GeForce 9 series that NVIDIA brought on the market. Today we take a look at one such card from Leadtek modeled as WinFast PX9600 GT with 512MB memory. When looking at its specifications, the WinFast PX9600 GT version runs at stock speed as per NVIDIA's specifications with nothing overclocked. - t-break

Leadtek packages their GeForce 9600 GT in a white and blue box with details and specifications clearly mentioned. Not much to talk about the card layout as Leadtek adopts the reference NVIDIA board, heatsink and fan with there logos added to the front. Two dual link DVI ports are present that can be used with the HDMI converter while another video output port sits on top. The power connector is located on the rear side of the card. You can also pair two of these video cards together using the SLI connection and doing so increase the overall gaming performance delivered by these GeForce 9600 GT graphics cards.

We can't say that we were much impressed with the Leadtek WinFast PX9600 GT graphics card. It performed pretty much as like any stock GeForce 9600 GT video card would perform in all tests except for Unreal Tournament 3 where something bogged it down. We repeatedly tried these tests and switched cards to see if the driver was causing the issue but it was only this Leadtek card and these games that scores dipped for no reason. For the other games we saw no real high or low score, rather average like any other GeForce 9600 GT that is running at stock clock speeds, though delivering great gaming experience.

So, considering the fact that it costs about $200 locally, we really can't think of a reason to recommend this product to anyone. You can spend slightly more and get a GeForce 8800 GT or slightly less and get the ECS GeForce 9600 GT which comes overclocked out of the box and performs better. Leadtek doesn’t really do anything to their GeForce 9600 GT solution to make it stand out amongst the rest. In the end that is a bit shame, although don't forget that Leadtek also has an Extreme edition available which does come with clocking tweaks.
