If you are a gamer who knows anything about hardware, then you have no doubt heard of XFX. They've been in the game quite a while, making hardware gamers love to use. XFX makes all ranges of products, from high-end GeForce 8800's all the way down to budget lines of cards. Today we're going to take a look at one of XFX's lower priced cards, the GeForce 8400 GS. This GeForce 8400 GS prices in at about $50 or less online and in stores, and not only fits into low profile systems, but it still provides dual monitor support for them. A small looking video card but capable of some nice things with good features. If this has the quality XFX is known for, then everything should go fine. - Gamepyre XFX GeForce 8400 GS 256MB Graphics Board Review
While the GeForce 8400 GS might not be the most appealing video card to the hardcore gamer, it is definitely a card that can handle many modern games. Don't expect to be running Crysis well on here however. Honestly, at a $50 price tag, we weren't even expecting most of our favorite shooters to even play at some low frames rate. The first test was we decided to see how my current favorite shooter, Call of Duty 4, would run on this card. To our amazement we were able to get the GeForce 8400 GS board to handle a very nice framerate by sacrificing resolution. We loaded into several intense levels containing heavy firefights. The XFX GeForce 8400 GS isn't going to be what you're looking for as a hardcore gamer, but don't think that means this is a bad card. The card itself performs very well in Windows Vista, perfect for watching movies or just general everyday use. Older and casual style games will run great as well on this card, just make sure the GeForce 8400 GS isn't an unsupported card. All around for what it is XFX has made a great card, perfect for the small media center computer. Some of the best features being the ability to put it in a low profile case, an S-video out, dual monitor support and it's nice and quiet. This card is a great choice for those who want HDTV output for their computers as well, but don't want to shell out a ton of cash. Though not a gaming card, it sure is a solid product in every aspect, and delivering all that is promised of it.
