Inno3D GeForce 8800 GT iChill Graphics Card Review
Written by Mavke

Inno3D began its iChill series with the previous GeForce 7 series of video cards. The premise was quite simple, couple factory overclocked video cards with quality aftermarket GPU coolers. No point reinventing the cooling wheel right? If ever there was a card that screamed for better cooling it was the GeForce 8800 GT. The GeForce 8800 GT was designed to be a single slot solution in reference trim. Now that the card has been out for a while it is clear that the single slot cooler is adequate at best. Of course when going for a factory tweaked version, you will need a bit better cooling solution and that is exactly what inno3D has put in practice with their iChill performance series. - Overclocker Cafe

The Inno3D factory overclocked card remains the highest clocked GeForce 8800 GT on the market with 700MHz on the core and 2000MHz memory. This is up from the reference of 600/1800MHz for the GeForce 8800 GT. The Inno3D GeForce 8800 GT iChill card takes Inno3D's super clocked GeForce 8800 GT and gives it the cooling it really needs. We strapped a Thermaltake DuOrb on a GeForce 8800 GT and got some impressive results. Let's see how Inno3D does with an Arctic Cooling Accelero X1 cooler. Since this is an whole package we are going over the card itself briefly a bit first, and see what it is all about.

The most surprising thing about the Inno3D GeForce 8800 GT iChill is the fact that they didn't spam all over the package its being factory overclocked. As we already mentioned, the GeForce 8800 GT's reference speeds are 600/1800MHz for the core and memory. The Inno3D GeForce 8800 GT iChill shares the same speed setting on the core clock and memory as the overclocked edition at 700/2000MHz. Better cooling for such a screamer is long overdue. Inno3D services this cooling need by offering up their overclocked edition card with an Arctic Cooling Accelero X1 cooler, a dual slot silent cooling solution.

The only bad thing we found with the Accelero X1 cooler was the extended width of the far shroud. The shroud obscures part of the SLI post. Now if you have a flexible SLI bridge cable like most ASUS boards have, this is no big deal but there are a number of boards with the hard and inflexible PCB type bridges. If you have this type of connector and want SLI, you had best get your dremel out. Better cooling also gave us a bit more headroom. With the Arctic Cooling Accelero X1 we were able to take the core up to 757MHz. The memory also saw more reach with the memory hitting a maximum speed of 2134MHz.

It's hard not to love this card, awesome speed, silent and cool operation that comes complete with a three year warranty. In a world of reference designs and vanilla products, Inno3D sets itself head and shoulders over the rest of the field with the fastest factory overclocked GeForce 8800 GT on the market. Coupling this with their efficient iChill cooling package was almost destiny. The cooler's design surprised me in that it partially obscured the SLI post. Anyone with the hard PCB style SLI bridge isn't going to be too happy about having to cut up a card like this. Still you are getting a very fast card with a great cooling solution.

All the more considering how extremely difficult it is to find GeForce 8800 GT's these days. If you have a choice however, the Inno3D GeForce 8800 GT iChill is a hard product to match let alone beat for performance and value. A true winner, nothing more and nothing less. It does make it very hard for the competition to strike back with even a more interesting customized GeForce 8800 GT solution.
