Laser Comparison & Performance

As we have shown a good view from all angles on the Dragon Lasers Hulk green laser, it is time to move on and finally show some more about the actual powerful laser itself and also comparing it to some other laser pointers that can be found. Now the comparison might sound a little in favor of the Hulk series due to the different size of the lasers, meaning laser pointers versus a torch somehow. But don't be mistaken, each of these lasers use two batteries of each 1.5V, so good for a total of 3V to power the actual laser beam. The main difference is however that we are looking at two standard lasers pointers of 5mW, being either a red or a green laser versus a powerful 225mW green laser.

For this exercise we used a static mounting position for each of the three lasers and mounted our camera on a tripod and took these photographs from 10 feet away. The ambient light consisted of a dark room and our target was a light grey office wall. A tremendous amount of output emanates from the Hulk series. Cleary we can see the coherent beam and the huge corona discharge, seen as diffusion over the typical 5mW red and green laser diodes. The Dragon Lasers Hulk series puts out excessive beam scatter and reflective discharge emissions that should be taken seriously. With such high power we highly recommend that you wear eye protection at all times. This thing is seriously outrageous.

And then we went out to give it a try, so first we drove around to find a good location where we wouldn't bother anyone and that was a wide open space only use by farmers. This was at night time as taking picture during the day isn't that easy to actually capture a good view on the laser beam. You can clearly see the beam but the camera we use for all our pictures is not that professional to do the same. So there we were playing with the Hulk laser. The lights you can see behind are from the highway, and we started pointing on the fields far away. The green laser beam is very strong and has a very wide range and when it hits the ground it round dot that lit up nicely.

Then we turned around, to have another view and now took the windmill as reference which you can just see far away in our pictures. We pointed with the Dragon Laser Hulk green laser in the air this time, and the beam was reaching for the sky. And although these images might not be as clear as we would have liked and not giving to the full extend the range of the beam, we can tell you it is going much farther than just the windmill. To give you an idea the windmill is about 5 kilometers away from where we stand and the light that can be seen are from the storage depot at the location of the windmill. The town you can just slightly see on the left which is even further away, like an extra 2-3 kilometers.

Well time to move on as we wanted to see if we could also give you all a view of the laser power with a bit more light and how the beam would then show as such. So we drove a bit closer to the town but stopped at the borders close to the railroad. From this spot we have some extra light and we could once again start playing with our green laser and see if we could nail down some good shots. And well we think we didn't do so badly. You can see very clearly that the beam is going much further then the street lighting and a lot more intensity as it is much brighter. Once the beam hit an object a bigger impact is seen, and the green light is spread in a bigger circle around the point impact.

Nope we didn't stay too long and continued our way to another location, which was again at the borders of the town near an industrial estate, again avoiding a bit the attraction of people as much as possible. Because we can tell you when we just used it in our garden it did attract quite some persons just passing by. This time we put the laser fixed and pointed it on a tree far away and then we started walking towards the tree to take our pictures. We were standing over 25 meters from Hulk laser position and took our shots to share with you. And with this laser the pointing on objects is very easy, cause as soon as the beam hits it you see a wide green circle caused by the light reflection. And we actually also went further and tried to hit the same object from further away which was just as easy.

Well we couldn't resist and wanted to give it a last shot and just drove to the town, and actually stopped in front of the train station. Well not exactly in front as we parked across the train station meaning at the other side of the canal. Yes this was already in the morning actually as we went out before, and just had the idea to take some extra impressions before going home. We looked a bit around and nobody around so we could quickly see to point our Hulk laser and take some pictures. The main idea was to show that the green laser lighting was better visible than the lighting of the train station and also to see the hit point of the beam and reflections. So again we use the Hulk laser and pointed around till we got some good shots which would show the actual power of this powerful green laser from Dragon Lasers.
