Today a new article from the guys and gals at Galaxy technology. Now you all know it, the GeForce 8800 GT 512MB is a trendy and hip card. Even if the card is fully reference it still rocks due to it's price versus performance ratio. Ever since the GeForce 8800 GT and GTS series have been released everyone was flabbergasted by two things, precisely the vast amount of bang for bucks and more unfortunate the heat the card creates. The cards can handle it though, so don't be worried about it. It however is not sexy, see sexy is when a card will diverts from traditional cooling and utilize a more unconventional cooling method. Galaxy GeForce 8800 GT 512MB HDMI Ready Review

As that's what Galaxy did. They, to date, made the best looking and innovative GeForce 8800 GT, period. Well not period, we mean we do have to at the very least tell you the difference over the reference model. How about a blue PCB, custom cooler, black connector panel, HDMI output, two 6-pin power connector for optimal multi phase power connectivity... It doesn't stop there though as this is supposed to be a tweakers card. For the fun factor the core clocks are set at default, but we can already tell you that we easily reached a 700MHz core frequency and the memory could be set at 2400MHz overclocked.

So what we are looking at today is the GeForce 8800 GT. A product that should and will replace that somewhat handicapped GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB, not only in performance yet also in price. The new GT cards are surely pretty to the eyes. A nice slim single slot design. The silicon powering that card is based on NVIDIA's new 65nm silicon. Is this a respin product you ask? Yes and no, as it's pretty much the good old G80 core yet with some exceptions, the fabrication processed was moved towards 65nm, meaning a smaller die-size, likely resulting in lower core voltages, more energy efficiency and perhaps better clock speeds.

The one thing that is very odd, yet interesting though, is that the GeForce 8800 GT has an increased amount of shader processors over the GTS series. For example a GeForce 8800 GTX has 128 of these processors, the GTS has 96 yet now the GT has 112 activated shader processors. Interesting, because if you take a peek at the clock speeds you'd might even think it can beat a GTX. Well, at the end of the pipeline there this thing called raster operation units and that's where the GT is a little castrated over the GTX. There's a new optimization of raster operation compression algorithm being applied on the GT though.

While the generic GeForce 8800 GT 512MB graphics card already is an inspiration for the money you pay for it, the Galaxy edition seems to be a wolf in sheep's clothing. Not only do we see an improved PCB, we see custom cooling, a 3-phase power circuit, heaps of overclocking headroom, HDMI connector... Seriously if this card was a women, we could fall in love with it. At that very lapse in time, the moment is gone and that is spot on my experience with this Galaxy card. It is nearly perfect in all ways, until you power it on. The noise from the cooler is making the product repelling, and undo all the good things about it.

So it's like this, if this product will have it's cooling properly altered to an acceptable noise level with the new coolers then it is by far the best GeForce 8800 GT we have had in our hands. You get really good performance for an okay price, you get to have HDMI, 3-phase power, custom cooling, nice blue PCB and overclocking potential. All these factors combined make this a truly awesome but most of all unique product. So while we're not sure how well or how bad the new cooler will perform, you'll still have one heck of a card.
