Overclockers New Zealand has published a review on the Gigabyte GV-NX66T128D-3 6600GT PCI-E graphics card. Up until now, there are NO decent mainstream PCI-E graphics cards on the market. There is the Nvidia PCX5900, but its performance disappointed many users. ATI does not have a better luck with its X600 series, as it is based on the old R9600XT core. However, the introduction of NV43 GPU, a.k.a. 6600x, is about to change all that.
Gigabyte GV-NX66T128D-3 6600GT PCI-E VGA Review
Gigabyte GV-NX66T128D flexes its muscle over the old PCX5900 and R9800Pro, due to its advanced architecture. It is amazing to see that nVidia managed to give a sub $220 card this level of performance. I feel the GF4 Ti-4200 days are back again.
Unfortunately, 6600GT PCI-E may not be the best choice for gamers for now, since retail PCI-E motherboards are not yet available for AMD64. Things can be quite different in a month's time though, as PCI-E AMD64 motherboards should be circulating in retail sectors. It would be interesting to see if Gigabyte can supply a 6600GT in AGP format, as it has the potential of dominating the graphics market.
All in all, Gigabyte GV-NX66T128D(-3) is one of the finest mainstream PCI-E graphics cards on the market, offering decent performance even at high resolutions (1280*1024) and affordability. |
