Today we take a look at one of the most talked about video cards on the market. You got it, we have the GeForce 8800 GT card to check out. To make things even more interesting it is also the TOP version from ASUS which is already overclocked so we are expecting some real performance from this graphics card. In fact ASUS is offering two versions of their Extreme N8800 GT video card, with the TOP edition being the stronger and faster version. Of course that means that ASUS is asking a bit more money than just the standard version for it. We are also going to look at noise and temperatures to really see if this card is worth the $250 that it costs out on the market. - R&B Mods ASUS GeForce 8800 GT TOP Graphics Board Review
As you might see one of the main attractions of this card is the game Company of Heroes. And PCI Express 2.0, 512MB of GDDR3 memory and already overclocked are also some main features that you can look for if you get this card. Inside you will find a small manual, the game Company of Heroes, drivers, and a CD with software like ASUS Update for BIOS. As with most ASUS cards you get a small CD holder in leather to keep track of your drivers and games you get with the devices. You also get a DVI to VGA adapter for the consumers that still don't run a DVI equipped monitor. Some people still run older power supplies which means they don't have a PCI Express power connector and this is when the PCI Express power adapter comes handy. You just plug in your molex power cable into this and you can power your PCI Express card. The whole front of the card is equipped with the Company of Heroes logo. Underneath it you have the heatsink and on the right side of the card the small annoying 40mm fan is mounted. The ventilation on the ASUS card is pretty good to get the heat out, several small ventilation holes are found around the heatsink. This card runs at stock speed, 700MHz core and 2000MHz memory. These are some nice stats already, but it is time to see what we can do with the results. We were able to squeeze a few more MHz out of the core as we ended up with 750MHz and the card still remained stable. The memory on the other hand was hard to get anything out of. At 750MHz core we were able to push the memory to 2020MHz which is not a major increase but remember the temperature graphs, the card ran hot already then. This is a great card no doubt about it, you get alot of speed for a small amount of money. We will be getting something similar or a GTS card in the near future and we fully recommend this card to our readers. As you can see on the benchmarks it has performed almost as good as the GTX card and it cost $200 less. The noise from the fan is bearable but we would change it for something better. Otherwise the card is rock stable, it is already overclocked by ASUS so we did not excpect much from it when it came to overclocking. We however were able to raise the core and ram a little bit. You also get some nice cable adapters and a full version of Company of Heroes which is worth some money also.
