NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS, Having 192-bit Memory Bus
Written by Mavke

Without any notice the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS comes. This card seems to be powered with another revision of the G92 chipset which features a 192-bit memory interface and coming with 384MB memory. The GeForce 8800 GS card which by any means looks to be a stripped down G80 series GPU although it's branded as the G92 and it's manufactured at 65nm. It has a 192-bit memory interface, 12 raster operation units and 96 stream processors compared to a 256-bit memory interface 16 raster operation units and 112 stream processors for the GeForce 8800 GT. For the remaining it looks quite the same, though will not be as performant as less processing power. - FudZilla

The GeForce 8800 GS 384MB card is clocked at 575MHz for the core, 1438MHz for the shaders and 1700MHz effective for the memory. This is somewhat slower than the GeForce 8800 GT that it was put up against which was clocked at stock speeds. However, the 768MB versions of these cards should be clocked faster than the GeForce 8800 GT, but features the same amount of stream processors and raster operation units. On average the GeForce 8800 GS 384MB was 20-30% slower than the GeForce 8800 GT 512MB card it was put up against, but if it'll be priced right.

And, it looks as if AMD's Radeon HD 3850 series just got a fierce contender, especially as prices of $165 for the 384MB version and $204 for the 768MB version are rumored. Our source said NVIDIA only choose four companies to release the GeForce 8800 GS, so not all parthers can get the G92 GS chip. The four companies are EVGA, XFX, Palit and ASUS. Of course they have their sales limited area, as EVGA only sell their card in the America, XFX somehow limited in Europe. Palit is China and Korea, ASUS in charge of whole Asia area. What about others? Well sorry NVIDIA have no spare chips for you.
