Today we are going to look at a graphics card from PNY called the PNY GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB, following the XLR8 series. This graphics card is the new GeForce 8800 GTS from NVIDIA with less memory and more shader units. The card is following the reference design and features the new G92 core, which is an optimized die-shrink of the well knows G80 chip. This means that it is somehow an advanced version with some changes to be more competitive. The PNY version runs at stock clock speeds, but should be capable of doing a bit more. A PNY is a loyal partner of NVIDIA they generally stick to the default settings but do come with a very good price compared to their competitors. - I4U News PNY GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB Graphics Card Review
The PNY GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB has a clock speed of 650MHz on the core, 1625 MHz on the shader and 1940MHz on the memory. The card uses 512MB of GDDR3 memory with a 256-bit memory interface. Next to that the G92 core features a total of 128 stream procesors, just like we have previously seen with the GeForce 8800 GTX and Ultra graphics cards. This G92 chip is also smaller, as NVIDIA has switched to a 65nm process for manufacturing these optimized graphics processors. To that extend the G92 chipset is smaller, though running cooler and also has the VP2 engine included in the die. We were surprised by the performance of the stock clocked PNY GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB version. It was very close to the performance of the overclocked XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB we have checked out previously, which was that mightty XXX edition. The price tag of the PNY GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB is around $370, which quite okay and similar to the other manufacturers. The PNY GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB is a nice card with performance very close to that of the overclocked versions. And the price of the card is good looking at the performance and gamers buying it for their gaming machine will be happy with it.
