Zotac GeForce 8800 GTS (G92) 512MB Board Review
Written by Mavke

Zotac are still a relatively new company and we saw their first graphics card a few months ago in the shape of a GeForce 8800 GTX AMP! edition. This time around, while we're still looking at a GeForce 8800 series card it's a GTS 512MB based on the new G92 core. While the card isn't an AMP! edition, there isn't a doubt in our mind that we won't see one come out over the next few weeks. We've already looked at the GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB a fair bit, so today we will just have a look at the Zotac one in our normal graphics card fashion and see what exactly they have done to the bundle and if they can stand out from the ever growing pack that is the graphics card market. - TweakTown

The front of the box is pretty clear with what we have going on here. The bottom of the box clearly states the model while the top shows us the brand along with the fact that it supports SLI and is an NVIDIA graphics card. The side of the card goes into a bit more detail of what we have on offer, like 512MB GDDR3 memory, 256-bit interface, PCI Express 2.0 and low noise cooling. Turning the box over we have some more detail on what is on offer from the card and how some of the technology should look with screenshots from Crysis, etc... The top of the box also has a little paragraph from Zotac about the card.

Using the stock cooler which covers up pretty much the whole card there isn't a lot you can say. We can see Zotac have placed their sticker on the left side of the card, but really apart from that there isn't much else to it. The back of the card gives us a single PCI Express connector as with all other GeForce 8800 GTS models, and also a single SLI connector across the top of the card. There is a sticker on the side that gives us the model number along with some details on the card. We also have the name of the company and their website. The card is a double slot one of course, with a rear exhaust.

It's hard to be really impressed with the Zotac GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB card, it's nothing we haven't seen in the past week or two from our mystery company and ASUS. The lack of an included game is a bit disappointing, but they're not the first company to have not included a game with the G92 based GeFroce 8800 GTS, and they probably won't be the last. Where the Zotac offering should become interesting is when they decide to release an AMP! edition of the card. They tend to be pretty good when it comes to overclocking and we should be able to get some good performance numbers out of the model when it comes.

The GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB is just how good the GeForce 8800 GT performs. With a 512MB overclocked model performing at a similar speed it's hard to grab an GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB. Some people are simply not interested in overclocked parts though, so no doubt there is still a place in the market for it. All in all, Zotac have done a pretty standard job with the card. It's not exciting but we're not exactly disappointed with the card. If it's in stock, the price is decent and you are after a GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB graphics card you are not going to be disappointed.
