Yes, we all know that right now the GeForce 8800 Ultra is the king of the hill, but other lower priced chipsets from NVIDIA are also doing extremely well in the performance arena. One such chipset is the GeForce 8800 GT. This article will look at the performance of EVGA's e-GeForce 8800 GT KO edition, which packs a whopping 512MB of GDDR3 memory. How does it stack up? Well, we put it through a series of benchmarks and in-game tests, although under Windows XP to determine how well it performs. And as you might know that the majority is this using Windows XP, it didn't feel right to already switch to Vista. Enjoy our little tour around the current gaming titles. - nV News EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GT 512MB KO Graphics Review
The EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GT KO generally approaches the performance of the high-end GeForce 8800 GTX under Windows XP, but for a much lower price. Notable differences include clock speeds, the number of stream processors and memory interface size. Things to note are that this particular graphics card has a stock core clock of 675MHz, effective memory clock speed of 1950MHz and shader clock speed of 1674MHz. All these are clocked a bit higher than the GeForce 8800 GT reference. The EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GT KO takes the space of a single case slot, which is a departure from dual slot cooling solutions. We thought the fan would sound like an airplane taking off in my case, but we were surprised to find that at stock it was as quiet as some aftermarket fans. This is due to the fact that at stock, the speed of the fan is at 29% of maximum. With the upcoming holiday season, the EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GT KO should be on the wish list of any gamer looking for an upgrade. It performed better than expected with all the gaming titles. It has a price set at $290, making it a fairly affordable upgrade that provides unbelievable performance. Although, it's been out of stock more often than not, but availability is slowly starting to pick up.
