PNY Verto XLR8 8800 GT 512MB PCI Express Review
Written by Mavke

Today we are looking at the latest video card from NVIDIA, namely the GeForce 8800 GT accelerator. The GeForce 8800 GT we will be looking at is a stock clocked video card from PNY called the Verto XLR8 8800 GT 512MB. The PNY Verto XLR8 8800 GT 512MB carries a very affordable price of about $270 and has some serious performance. But make no mistake in thinking it is yet another G80 based graphics cards with some special extra stream processors. For the GeForce 8800 GT we see that NVIDIA has refreshed and shrinked down the G80 core, and by doing so released an optimized G92 chip. This new GPU is a 65nm chip, coming at a cheaper price range to withstand the competition. - I4U News

The PNY Verto XLR8 8800 GT 512MB card has a core clock speed of 600MHz, a memory clock of 1800MHz effective and a shader clock of 1500MHz. The card has 512MB of memory and a 256-bit memory interface. The fill rate for the Verto XLR8 8800 GT 512MB is 33.6 billion pixels per secon and the memory bandwidth is 57.6GB/sec. One of the best features of the GeForce 8800 GT 512MB is that it is a single slot card and only requires one power cable to operate. This card supports SLI and DirectX 10. All the features of this card are shared in common with the other GeForce 8800 series on the market save one notable feature.

The GeForce 8800 GT is the first video card from NVIDIA to be compatible with PCI Express 2.0 offering twice the bandwidth of current PCI Express slots. The PNY Verto XLR8 8800 GT is fully backwards compatible with PCI Express 1.0 as well. The card is also HDCP capable for watching protected HD films on your computer. In the end we were very pleased with the performance of the stock clocked PNY Verto XLR8 8800 GT 512MB graphics card. This card carries a bargain price that most gamers can afford and provides performance that is better than many video cards costing more money.

The stock PNY Verto XLR8 8800 GT 512MB ran impressively close to the super expensive and utmost high-end XFX GeForce 8800 Ultra XXX edition in several benchmarks. If you have a video card on your Christmas list this year, the PNY Verto XLR8 8800 GT will definitely allow you to play all this year's hottest games. If you are a gamer in the market for a new video card under $300, you would be crazy to not buy the new PNY Vero XLR8 8800 GT 512MB. We can't wait to see how well overclocked versions of the GeForce 8800 GT perform. The PNY Verto XLR8 8800 GT 512MB is one of the gaming bargains of the year.
