Glowing Darkness, Colorful LED Integration

Well testing would be a big word, but at least we did use the Spire PowerFuse on one of our systems which is fitted with a GeForce 8800 Ultra from Point of View. Yes, you got that right that means that we have two PCI Express power connections available and that we did put two PowerFuse protectors to work. And, did they have work to do... At least that is what we could tell from the LED indication while playing some of our favorite games. No, this time no real data, but we have had the chance to look into the test data from Spire and it does really proof that this product is worth it. The ripple noise is reduced by up to 50% which means a more stable and equal voltage and current is provided to the graphics card. That alone is quite impressive and does mean that your graphics card is fed with a more stable power than before which in the end will lead to a much more stable operation of the system as a whole.

Of course we didn't want to leave without given you all some impressions of the LED activity that we saw while using the Spire PowerFuse. So we did turn off the lights and tried to capture the LED color activity as good as we could. And no, the images aren't giving the best view as the LED's are changing colors from blue, green, orange to red to give an indication on the protection activity. But at least you have some impression on the LED indicator. From our feeling while using the PowerFuse on the GeForce 8800 Ultra we can say that the video card somehow performed in a more stable way. Yeah, you might say that is all in your mind, but still that is how we experienced the PowerFuse protector and we are quite happy to have it protection this quite expensive graphics card!

Final Thoughts

It is a first for everything, and this time around Spire came up first with the idea of making a product that didn't exist yet, namely a graphics card protector. And with all new things it will be hard to find a place on the market although this PowerFuse might just have an edge to get a bit quicker known. What Spire has done is taking a look at the current needs and found a product that could bring just that relief that some users are looking for. Yes, we have seen it before that power supplies are not always performing according to the specifications detailed and that has some negative effects on the stability and the performance delivered by the graphics card. Well that experience we can easily overcome with the PowerFuse protector from Spire.

Secondly with the current high demand of current graphics accelerators on the power requirements which need to be delivered by the power supply, we see more and more powerful power supplies being developed and released. Currently these go up to about 1600W to power a dual-GPU system equipped with two GeForce 8800 Ultra or Radeon HD 2900 XT video cards. Of course this means high power on the 12V rails and this requires a very stable delivery of current and voltage. Again to make sure we won't face high peaks on both the PowerFuse protector comes back in to the picture. The Spire PowerFuse provides protection against irregular high voltage and current. And next to that it reduces the ripple noise by filtering the power supplied by the power supply.

With awesome looks and functionality, we rate the Spire PowerFuse protector as a great asset towards products linked to the graphics cards market. Anyone looking for some extra protection fro the high-end graphics card will absolutely love this PowerFuse protector technology. This is an excellent product with an okay price. The user friendly design is guaranteed and very functional. And an extra note is the LED indicator that might just swing over some case modders for adding an extra gadget to their current computer system. With our personal experience, we can certainly recommend this very innovative product from Spire!
