Although PNY might not be the general port of call for enthusiasts when it comes to upgrading their graphics card, they produce a wide range of GPU's designed for users of not only the latest and greatest, but the mid-range cards too. Today we have such a card, the GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB which other manufacturers have done very well with. Throughout its history, PNY has helped to redefine itself by delivering segmented product lines targeted to specific groups of computer enthusiasts, including the youth market, systems designers, digital animators, presentation professionals and graphics artists. As a result, PNY has earned its position among the most respected companies in the industry. - XSReviews PNY Verto XLR8 8800 GTS 320MB Video Card Review
The box for this PNY card seems to have seen better days. However, looking past the poorly removed stickers, you can see a rather oddly shaped warrior, of sorts, guarding some sort of snowy, mountain fortress. I think it's intended to be a man, but at first glance I was a little unsure. The rest of the front is decorated in black with some of the card's features prominently displayed in a metallic silver, along with the usual NVIDIA logos. The back is pretty much identical to the front, however this side features a bit of marketing spiel from both PNY and NVIDIA, letting you know exactly why you should buy this card. The card itself, features a green PCB, which we admit aren't our favourite colors of GPU, there are just much cooler colors out there for graphics cards these days, why green? While the PCB may not be the most attractive, the cooler that adorns it isn't so bad. It has some sort of 3D, heavily shadowed, green shape which looks quite impressive. The cooling setup on this GeForce 8800 GTS is the standard GeForce 8 series exhaust cooler. It features a fan at the front that is adorned with a central PNY logo. The air is funneled by the large plastic shroud over an internal heatsink. When it comes to overclocking, the GeForce 8800 GTS cards tend to do very well. However, we weren't expecting the level of overclocking that this card was capable of. Taking it from its stock of 500MHz on the core and 1600MHz on the memory, we were able to push it all the way to 630MHz on the core and a whopping 1900MHz on the memory. This made some nice differences to the benchmarks scores. Noise wise, the GTS is a typical GeForce 8800 card and is quite loud. Its cooling isn't the best, but since these cards tend to run pretty hot anyway, it isn't bad at all. Although the PCB is a little ugly and it is not the quietest ever, the GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB from PNY fills the gap between the 640MB version and the GeForce 8600 GTS very nicely. With its high overclockability and great good performance for its price, this card is great value for money, and if you have around $350 to spend on a GPU, it is well worth a look.
