The graphics arm of AMD said it has started shipping volumes of the Radeon HD 2400 and Radeon HD 2600 graphics chips to its add-in board customers. The people to ship it includes Sapphire, PowerColor, ASUS, GeCube, MSI, Club3D, Gigabyte and HIS. More interestingly, perhaps, AMD wants to clarify any confusion about the Unified Video Decoder in the Radeon HD 2000 series. It's in the Radeon HD 2300, the Radeon HD 2400 and the Radeon HD 2600 but not in the high-end Radeon HD 2900 series. This is where the release descends into gobbledygook. The UVD is not in the Radeon HD 2900 as it is not needed due to the usage model of this high-end product. - The Inquirer AMD Declares Radeon HD 2400 and HD 2600 Shipping
The time for arrival of the lowest cards from Red Team is approaching fast, and slowly performance figures are starting to appear. Now, NVIDIA will counter AMD's own Radeon HD 2400 chips with the GeForce 8400 series, bound for introduction on June 19th. It seems that in a head to head comparison, NVIDIA might have a winner, since the GeForce 8400 GS running at 450/800MHz will score around 1600 points in 3DMark06, while the Radeon HD 2400 PRO at 520/1000MHz will barely score 1250 points. The guilty party for preliminary 3DMark06 score is an array of 40 superscalar units. Related Articles
