If you wanted to, one could almost build a complete computer with only ASUS components. Over the years the manufacturer has expanded to almost every PC product possible. Monitors, motherboards, graphics cards, sound cards, cases, DVD burners, fans, networking and so on. We have looked at quite a few of their products across the spectrum and they have deservedly earned the respect of the hardware community. Their products stand out in the crowd with excellent performance and great quality, though being a bit pricy compared to the other brands. Today we have a graphics card to look at of theirs, the GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB graphics card. - AMDZone ASUS Extreme N8800 GTS 320MB Video Card Review
We have covered a number of GeForce 8800 cards and though the GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB is newer it isn't very different from the 640MB card at all. It features 96 stream processors, DirectX 10 support, with 500MHz core speed and 1600MHz effective memory clock speed, on a 320-bit memory interface. Nothing has changed except that the memory has been split in half from 640MB to 320MB in order to offer the GeForce 8800 GTS at a lower price. Like other GeForce 8800 GTS cards it is quite a long, long card though it doesn't extend past ATX motherboards such as the GeForce 8800 GTX. We have seen a few GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB cards and we have to say they offer a tremendous value for the money. Compared to the recently released GeForce 8600 GTS it is definitely a more favorable card in the price/performance ratio. As you can see though from the benchmarks we do not recommend this card for playing games at the higher resolution as it will suffer in performance. This trend isn't likely to get any better in the future as games use more and more texture memory as well. If you don't need that high a resolution though this is definitely an excellent card worthy of your attention. ASUS have done an excellent job with the card and include a very interesting software bundle with Ghost Recon. This however probably adds to the cost as it isn't the cheapest GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB card you can buy. That said to some ASUS adds an extra level of re-assurance and for those who like the included software then this is an added bonus as well. We hope they would think if including a gamepad again or some other interesting hardware bundle especially considering how they have their hands in so much computer hardware. Perhaps a coupon for buying another ASUS product?
