If you have built your own computer sometime in the last 5 years there is a good chance you know who OCZ is. Just in case you don't, they are highly regarded and one of the industry leaders in memory technology and are slowly starting to increase their brand name into other areas of the industry. One of those branches is the world of video cards. Combining the fastest practical gaming card on the market with OCZ and their outstanding customer service and warranty is music to the ears of many. OCZ recently sent us one of their binned to perfection GeForce 8800 GTX's and knowing how well their memory performs, we were hoping it lived up to the marketing. - Legit Reviews OCZ GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB Graphics Card Review
While OCZ follows the reference design of the GeForce 8800 GTX, OCZ put a focus on overclocking and as you will see in a bit, they weren't kidding. OCZ backs all of their high quality products with a limited lifetime warranty. As long as your product hasn't been abused, misused, damaged, neglected, replaced, repaired tampered with or modified you can contact OCZ to get a bad part replaced. They also offer a great support forum on their website where OCZ support technicians can quickly get your issue sorted out. Starting with the box, the style of box is similar to most brands although not as tall and thick. Looking at our OCZ GeForce 8800 GTX we see that they are using the reference heatsink and cooler with just a different sticker on the heatsink to differentiate it from other GeForce 8800 GTX cards. Notice that our card has that sexy black PCB that seemingly disappeared. Either we have an early card or OCZ bought up many of the black PCB's. Underneath that heatsink lies that now familiar and stellar performing, GeForce 8800 GTX core clocked at 575MHz, and the memory chips comes clocked at 1.8GHz both reference speeds for a GeForce 8800 GTX accelerator. Of course OCZ does highlight the performance of their card. Our OCZ card runs like it should for clock speeds that it ships with. Overclocking however, is where this card puts the pedal to the metal and leaves the other cards in the dust. With the built in utility to stress test the video card as you crank up the speed it provides repeatable results. Note that when you overclock the Core speed the shader speed increases as well. We reached an incredible 650MHz core clock and 2.05GHz memory! At 650MHz core, the shader speed was at 1512MHz. We were able to run through all of our games at these new speeds. And actually the core could even do 670MHz... If we haven't heaped enough praise on the GeForce 8800 GTX this should just about do it. OCZ takes an already proven performer and kicks it up a notch. Our OCZ card never exhibited any ill effects and retained the same quiet noise level, power consumption, and heat output of the reference GTX. When you add in the stellar overclock it really tips the favor of our favorite GeForce 8800 GTX to OCZ. All OCZ GPU products are guaranteed with lifetime warranty to ensure product satisfaction. This means that you can sleep at night knowing that your massive overclock won't leave you with a dead card that isn't covered by a warranty.
