What about the upcoming cheaper version of the GeForce 8800 GTS? Well, we had a chance to take the cooler off one of the GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB cards and do some basic benchmarking. The card we checked worked at 500MHz core and 1600MHz memory but some manufacturers might have the faster clocks. The NDA about this card expires on Monday but why shouldn't you read about it today? Good morning America, let me introduce the GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB. The card has the good old G80 chip with its small external I/O chip that couldn't fit on the G80 die. The company uses Hynix branded memory, instead of the popular Samsung memory that can work at 320Mbit. - The Inquirer NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB SLI Ready Review
Instead of twelve memory chips the card has ten of them. Ten times thirty two gives you 320MB of memory. It specifications say it's 256-bit memory at 1.1ns and of course GDDR3 flavoured but it works just fine with this card. The card scores around 28000 points in 3DMark03 which is quite comparable to the GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB, about 15000 points in 3DMark05 and around 8800 points in 3DMark06. That isn't bad at all and it is quite good when looking at the 640MB version. So NVIDIA is offering a great cheaper alternative, next to their full features GTS and GTX versions.
