NVIDIA is working on one more overclock of the G80 chip. We just wrote about EVGA's e-GeForce 8800 GTX overclocked edition that works at 626MHz and somehow we know that 630MHz is the top for this chip. However NVIDIA plans to introduce the new overclocked card with a driver tweak. This card is supposed to give DAAMIT's R600 a run for its money. Though, we don't know really how much further NVIDIA can push the G80 chip but it obviously has some secret driver that can unleash some more performance. But we just don't know how much more performance they can possibly unleash. It remains a bit to be seen, cause drivers tweaks are quite unpredictable. - The Inquirer Refreshing towards a GeForce 8900 comes into view
However we also gotten some hearing to a similar approach as with the GeForce 7900 series with the optimized G71 refresh. Our sources reported some details about the heritage of the graphics processor GeForce 8800 GTX, where NVIDIA plans to produce a refresh chip linked to some optimisation and a die shrink. This would give us an optimized G81, possible GeForce 8900 GTX which NVIDIA plans to produce at TSMC plants TSMC on the 65nm process. Although other sources are pointing to a shrink to only 80nm, as that technology has already been used successfully. Related Articles |
