We can now divulge details of the third of the four R600 versions ATI is preparing for consumers. One is GDDR3, one is GDDR4 and the third one is now known as the Uber edition. The R600 Uber edition will end up as the fastest R600 based card of the first batch on the shelves. The key secret is a water cooler. We heard that two companies are competing to make the cooler. One is Aavid, which we have already seen on many graphics cards and the second is Denmark based Asetek. Quite an interesting way forward as water cooling shows up more and more, as we have seen also with the GeForce 8800 series. And it is good to see more players being involved to design a cooling solution. - The Inquirer ATI confirmed the upcoming R600 based Uber edition
We hear that the water cooler has both water pump and the reservoir on the radiator. So the card will look similar to the other cards, just with bigger radiator, powered with fan, and a reservoir. You should not end up with lot of wires and tubes from and to your card. It should be the fastest card around but we will have to hold our breath for a while more yet. Meanwhile, we'll try to sniff out what flavour the fourth implementation will come in. As we are quite curious what they will come up with, and the difference with the other versions already known. And that's without delving into the professional world. Related Articles |
