NVIDIA's GeForce 8800 GTS cards with 320MB of memory are already in the hands of some lucky reviewers. The card is set to cost €299 and make DirectX 10 a bit more affordable at least before the G86 comes to try to take over the world. And in fact a GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB should not end up much slower than its 640MB brother but the reviews will see the light of day in the next few days. NVIDIA just needs to wave the flag and say that the NDA's are lifted off. Still, we are very hoping that someone can jump the gun on this chip. Even though DirectX 10 games are delayed, it looks like NVIDIA will be well positioned to supply graphics cards to run them, when they show up. - The Inquirer NVIDIA's GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB is sampling now
The GeForce 8800 GTS is designed to reduce the cost of enthusiast level DirectX 10. With the Samsung GDDR3 1.2ns rated at 1600MHz affective having a spot market price of about $50 for 640MB. We can reasonably expect a $25 reduction in the bill of materials for the 320MB version of the card. The GeForce 8800 GTS already exists as a 640MB product. All aspects of the 640MB card will remain the same for the 320MB derivative; 500MHz core frequency, 1600MHz memory frequency and 96 stream processors. The PCB layout and cooling will remain the same. NVIDIA's embargo for the 320MB version is slated for mid February.
