AMD to launch the new R600 in Amsterdam, in March
Written by Mavke

AMD will launch ATI's R600 graphics chippery in Amsterdam on or around the ides of March. Some 200 hacks from 45 countries will be invited to attend this event. With the power of DAAMIT this will be the biggest and most glamourous graphics chip launch to date. Ex-ATI public relations spinners managed to open some wallets to get the necessary funding for such a launch. It makes sense, as you could see from what we already told you here how partners feels about the card. Top executives from DAAMIT are expected to tip up and some usual suspects are expected. And of course some of the big guys responsible for the public relations around the upcoming R600 series. - The Inquirer

Some NVIDIA green is about to get smoked as we heard R600 with some software tweaks will actually be faster than we all anticipated. The launch is definitely in March. Although earlier mentioned this would be at CeBIT, that doesn't seem the case any longer as AMD, with ATI graphics would like to just make a bigger show out of it. And certainly if it can wipe the G80 from its spot as fastest accelerator available, that does seem natural. How well it will perform and what the actual gain will be related to DirectX 10 technology remains to be seen. But the future is looking damn good and exciting.
