Enhanced Performance Results Since the OCZ Special Ops Edition line is specifically built as a limited edition for performance enthusiasts we are going to see how much performance these memory modules can deliver. We will start this of by sticking to the 800MHz speed and start lowering the memory timings. Doing so we reached some very aggressive memory timings of 4-4-3-15 which are not even that common for DDR2-800 designed memory modules. But that is what comes advertised by OCZ and that is what we used. Similarly as before, we will once again go through the full benchmarks analysis to point out the difference in performance.
Float Copy Results So now that we are on the best memory latency for any DDR2-800 memory out there, we can have the better results for using these Special Ops Edition Urban Elite memory sticks at 800MHz. The memory timings have been set manually on the mainboard BIOS to 4-4-3-15 and that results in an awesome score of 3545MB/s on average for the Float Copy results. This is around 130MB/s increase over the 5-5-5-15 timings used before by just aligning the latency. That shows already the importance of the memory timings on the actual bandwidth available.
Float Scale Results Also on the next results for the Float Scale part we see a tremendous increase of performance up to 3564MB/s on average which is an increase of about 130MB/s. We can clearly understand why the memory timings are playing a big role on the performance levels of the DDR2 memory; the lower the latencies will mean better responsiveness and better performance in the end. On the Special Ops Edition that certainly makes a nice difference, which will be highly appreciated by the hardcore gamer.
Float Add Results Continuing on our results we have arrived to the Float Add results of the Special Ops Edition PC2-6400 memory modules. By applying the 4-4-3-15 timings we see an average of 4163MB/s an improvement of around 225MB/s. So at 800MHz the new adapted latencies are paying of quite well and lift these OCZ memory sticks to a new performance level. Also the maximum bandwidth has gone up, and we still notice that both the top and average remain closely together. Doing so warrants excellent stability.
Float Triad Results And finally we have the Float Triad results that are boosted to a 4169MB/s on average which again is a boost of about 230MB/s. We can also spot that the minimum and maximum levels are quite matching up and don't have that much gap in between. This adds up to having very stable operation with the Special Ops Edition modules. Taking into account again a very close match between maximum and average bandwidth reported, only confirms once more the great stability of these memory sticks.
These Special Ops Edition PC2-6400 ram modules are performing at extreme levels. Operating at 800MHz these ram sticks just blew us away by there stability and performance. So if you are looking for some decent memory modules at DDR2-800 speed levels then just think about these OCZ Special Ops Edition PC2-6400 Urban Elite sticks. They perform as fast or in most cases faster then any other DDR2-800 dual channel memory kit. We can truly state that OCZ designed the Special Ops series with the hardcore gamers and system builders in mind.
