We got a Leadtek WinFast PX7950 GT card in our lab and that was the first GeForce 7950 GT to knock at our doors. The GeForce 7950 GT is a new card from NVIDIA, yet another one derived from the G71 chip but this time clocked at 550/1400MHz. This is the clock speed that Leadtek uses on its product. It is 100MHz faster than a GeForce 7900 GT and 80MHz faster in memory speed, and overall in games and marks, it ends up faster. Just like the GeForce 7900 GT, the GeForce 7950 GT features 24 pipelines, 8 vertex shaders and 16 render output units). The biggest difference is that GeForce 7950 GT has 512MB of memory as well as the different clocks. - The Inquirer Leadtek WinFast PX7950 GT TDH 512MB Review
We've told you enough about G71 chip already, it is fast but it is DirectX 9.0c only and this starts to bother us. Vista and the final DirectX 10 are just a month away but don't worry, there won't be an NVIDIA card in this price range that supports DirectX 10. You will need to wait for at least one more quarter to get a DirectX 10 card for sub $300. The card supports H.264 hardware decoding and dual link DVI and comes with two retail games, Serious Sam 2 and SpellForce 2. The card uses single slot cooler, not a noisy one, and has Winfast PX7950 GT 512MB carved on it. And it looks really cool. On average the Leadtek WinFast PX7950 GT is about twenty percent faster than the older GeForce 7900 GT reference card. Time passes by and only six months after the original introduction of the GeForce7900 GT we now have much faster GeForce 7950 GT. Leadtek did a good job including some cool bits and two rather playable games, one of which we use as our benchmark and really like it. For $269 in the USA we think it is a great buy. The only downside is that this is a DirectX 9 card but as I said before DirectX 10 mainstream is still at least six months away.
