MSI RX800 X800XT PCI-E Review
Written by Mavke

Gamers-Depot has put up a review on the MSI RX800 X800XT PCI-E graphics card. Let's face it, new technology is always exciting if not expensive and PCI Express is not indifferent to this same lure. Both ATI and nVidia are pumping out graphic cards based on PCI-E but it seems as if only ATI can get its high-end part out the door – currently, nVidia's mid-stream, the GT, is their high-end PCI-E.

MSI, who happens to produce cards based on both competing GPUs, has recently released its RX800 PCI-E card which uses ATI's X800XT chip. It's clocked at a lofty 500MHz has 256MB of GDDR3 memory and features a full 16 pixel pipelines that offer some of the fastest Shader Model 2.0 performance to be found today.

Overall performance is great on this card – as with other X800XT's we've tested – and it’d make a great solution for any hard-core game with an unlimited budget. MSI does a great job of making the bundle and availability appears to be in good supply. Our only misgivings of this card is that retailers have jacked the price up the stratosphere – something we hope MSI will help clamp down on as the ones getting hurt in this are the consumers who are being forced to pay ridiculous prices because of retailers' greed.

We've enjoyed this card and have absolutely no reservations in recommending it to anyone looking for a high-end solution. Support for the X800 seems to be picking up with games like Half-Life 2 and MOH: Pacific Assault.

If MSI can get its retail prices in line and can keep up with demand, then it'll have a sure-fire winner on its hands for those lucky enough to have a current generation of motherboard with PCI-Express. Additionally, it helps put them in line with OEM's like Dell and others who need PCI-E cards and that should help lower prices.
