NVIDIA's upcoming G80 core to sample in November
Written by Mavke

We will see the NVIDIA G80 core this year. At least it looks like we will. We expected the chip a little bit earlier but we learned that NVIDIA fiddled about with some plans. We also learned that G80 chip is likely to sample in November time and there is a big chance that you should be able to buy one sometime during that month. We also learned that most specifications such as a 1500MHz clock speed are far from true and I have to remind you that we are still talking about a 90 nanometre chip only, so don't expect miracles from the clock speeds. It won't be more than roughly 700MHz and we strongly believe it will end up even lower than that, but is still a bit unclear so far. - The Inquirer

Just to refresh your mind the R600 chip, the next generation ATI is already pushed for January/February time, or to be on the safe side we can simply say Q1 2007. On that part NVIDIA is still leading the way, although further information we have not been able to get so far on the upcoming G80 chip. As we already mentioned the G80 might be come with a quite strange bandwidth interface of 384-bit, but we haven't gotten any real confirmation on that. As it has been from the start, the details of the G80 core are a well kept secret. Although as November is approaching slowly, more details will become available in due time.
