Maximum Overclocking... Going that extra step, we did some extra effort and tried to overclock these Team Group memory modules a bit more which ended up at a maximum of 260MHz FSB. The only doubt I have here if it is actually the memory or the Intel processor that is blocking us from going further. I guess some better cooling might have shed some light on this. Somehow by applying a voltage increase to 1.535V on the CPU we have been able to reach 3.9GHz with our trusted Intel P4 Prescott 3.0GHz. No to bad with just air cooling I would say.
As I wanted to push it a bit further, I used a mobile airco system to blow cold air towards the CPU cooler and by that reducing the heat even more. Of course this wouldn't be something for every day use, but doing so I could increase the voltage a tiny bit more to 1.560V and was able to reach for the first time 4.0GHz out of my Intel Pentium 4 Prescott. Doing so I was able to overclock the processor by 1000MHz extra, against the default speed of 3.0GHz. The memory is now running at 266MHz (532MHz DDR), and was just workable.
Final Thoughts The Team Group Xtreem memory modules are definitely very impressive. Clearly the Xtreem line is marketing itself to users that want more from their memory than other manufacturers provide. Case modders are the first to come to mind, but really anyone with a windowed case would be interested in the Xtreem series modules. The Team Group Xtreem 2GB Cronus dual channel pack is one heck of a bottleneck reducer and one of the fastest set of Team Group memory modules to pass through our hand and benchmark suites. Team Group Xtreem PC-4000 Cronus Edition definitely lives up to the Xtreem name. Not once did we experience stability problems with the memory, not even while playing with the latency settings. This memory is ideal for any enthusiast who wants to get something more out of his system. The Tracer series can be tweaked quite a bit and have some extra room for overclocking. The ability to overclock to DDR532 speeds and being able to run with low latency timings allows the user a lot of flexibility to configure these modules to their system setup. If you are in the market for larger capacity storage and would like to get better performance over using additional sticks of ram to achieve the same ram capacity, you owe it to your system and yourself to invest in these modules. The 2GB size opens up our system, so we get less swap file activity, which will rob your system of performance. These modules are bad ass and should be on anyone’s short list of upgrades. The Xtreem Edition is rock steady and totally stable for all our game titles, not one blue screen or lagish type issues with these bad boys, the games ran flawlessly. The Team Group Xtreem PC-4000 is a fantastic product and deserves the credit its receiving as the price is ultra competitive and its performance is better than most. It's rated at PC-4000 or DDR500; however the chipset used is also capable of running at higher speeds as well as at DDR400, so this 2GB dual channel kit is a real high performance setup. The bottom line is, the product is not hyped up in anyway, the ram deserves the recognition and awards it is receiving. All I can say is make your next purchase an Xtreem purchase!
